#changing winds#

Written for : David’s W3 Prompt #80: Wea’ve Written Weekly

Melissa’s prompt guidelines
Compose a series of three tanka;
Following are three “turn lines” or “pivots” (third lines) for each of three tanka, and you must construct the rest:
Turn / Pivot for tanka #1: “I sit quietly”
Turn / Pivot for tanka #2: “Left behind till spring”
Turn / Pivot for tanka #3: “Wild geese preen feathers”
These tanka are to be autumn/winter-themed;
You may write each of your tanka in a single unbroken line of thirty-one syllables, or you may use the five-line 5/7/5/7/7 approach.

rustling leaves scatter
soft breeze amber in color
I sit quietly
a stranger amongst nature
new melodies of silence

change chilled the crisp air
gentle winds time turned tempest
Left behind till spring
poised amidst the storm hopeful
endurance tests faith in fate

nature applauded
mystic their skills to conform
Wild geese preen feathers
across seas steady their flights
freedom never felt … this free

  1. Beautiful. These lines especially stood out to me:

    “a stranger amongst nature
    new melodies of silence”

    And then “freedom never felt … this free”

    We will never understand the mystery, and yet we see home.❤️

  2. Your poetic weave beautifully captures the essence of autumn and winter. Each tanka paints a vivid picture of nature’s transitions, and the turns add a delightful depth to the verses. Well-woven imagery and emotions! 🍂❄️
